Nicknamed the Charm City, Baltimore is a diverse place with a lot of culture and history as well as Mercy spirit. From historic Fells Point to Hampden, you’ll come to find the uniqueness of the city. The volunteers reside in Lauraville, a neighborhood just 5 miles away from downtown, in a spacious, vacant rectory with shops and grocery stores within walking distance. Two cars and public transit brings everything in Baltimore just a short trip away. There will always B’more to discover in this city.

AIRS (AIDS Interfaith Residential Services)*

Mission: To provide comprehensive supportive housing services to enhance quality of life, emphasizing self-sufficiency for low-income and homeless individuals and families living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other disabilities.

AIRS provides support services and housing to low-income adults, individuals and families with children, youth and young adults, ex-offenders, Spanish-speaking populations, and those who require 24 hour compassionate care and supervision, all of whom are living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other disabilities.  A volunteer is needed to serve with the Don Miller House Program as a residential aide, preparing meals, cleaning the home, providing personal care, and offering emotional support to low-income adults living with HIV/AIDS in a residential setting. 

Mercy Medical Center*

Mission: To witness God’s healing love for all people by providing excellent clinical and residential services within a community of compassionate care.

Mercy Medical Center is a community hospital located in downtown Baltimore where a diverse population is served. The campus includes a state-of-the-art, 300-bed patient tower for the many poor and marginalized residents of Baltimore City. Mercy continues to grow through outreach programs, numerous outpatient centers, and specialty health services. A volunteer is needed as an outreach worker in the emergency department, engaging with homeless and vulnerable patients who frequently access emergency department services and linking them to primary care centers and social service agencies in the community.

St. Francis of Assisi Church and School*

Mission: To proclaim the message of Jesus to the total community, ministering in love and justice to all of God’s people; to form children for a life of scholarship, spirituality, and service.

St. Francis of Assisi is a Catholic church and school that serves Northeast Baltimore. A hallmark of the parish has been its commitment to social justice. A volunteer is needed as a social justice coordinator, coordinating social justice ministry in both the school and the parish through community outreach, parish activities, and the school’s curriculum.

St. Peter’s Adult Learning Center, Inc.*

Mission: To empower adults with developmental disabilities to be contributing members of society.

St. Peter’s Adult Learning Center serves persons with developmental disabilities by providing day habilitation and supported employment programs to adults 21 years of age or older. A volunteer is needed as the day program assistant, assisting members in building relationships and being successful in the workplace through instruction in life skills and communication, planning activities, and travel training. Valid driver’s license is required.

Stella Maris*

Mission: To provide a comprehensive range of housing and health services for the elderly, sick, injured and the dying.

Stella Maris provides the following services to the aged, infirm, and terminally ill persons: independent living housing units, hospice care, medical day care, and personal care services. A volunteer is needed as a nurse in the hospice care unit or as an activities coordinator in the long-term care and independent living units.
