If you don’t live in Baltimore, chances are you have very little knowledge of the city’s tourist attractions. The Inner Harbor is the crown jewel of Charm City’s revitalization efforts. Another favorite attraction is Fells Point, a historic waterfront community, which offers a fun array of shops, galleries, and restaurants. Volunteers live in a vacant rectory in the Lauraville community of Baltimore City. Nearby coffee shops, local grocers, and restaurants line the street, making this area convenient for walking. Two cars are provided for community use and public transportation is easily accessed.
AIRS (AIDS Interfaith Residential Services)*
Mission: To provide comprehensive supportive housing services to enhance quality of life, emphasizing self-sufficiency for low-income and homeless individuals and families living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other disabilities.
AIRS provides support services and housing to low-income adults, individuals and families with children, youth and young adults, ex-offenders, Spanish speaking populations, and those who require 24 hour compassionate care and supervision, all of whom are living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other disabilities. A volunteer is needed to serve as a residential aide with the Don
Miller House Program, providing personal care, emotional support, and meal preparation to low-income adults living with HIV/AIDS in a residential setting.
Mercy Medical Center*
Mission: To witness God’s healing love for all people by providing excellent clinical and residential services within a community of compassionate care.
Mercy Medical Center is a community hospital located in downtown Baltimore where a diverse population is served. The campus includes a state-of-the-art, 300-bed patient tower for the many poor and marginalized residents of Baltimore City. Mercy continues to grow through outreach programs, numerous outpatient centers, and specialty health services. A volunteer is needed as an advocate to assist patients and families in the emergency room.
St. Francis of Assisi Church and School*
Mission: To proclaim the message of Jesus to the total community, ministering in love and justice to all of God’s people; to form children for a life of scholarship, spirituality, and service.
St. Francis of Assisi is a Catholic church and school that serves Northeast Baltimore. A hallmark of the parish has been its commitment to social justice. A volunteer is needed as a social justice coordinator, coordinating social justice ministry in both the school and the parish through community outreach, parish activities, and the school’s curriculum.
St. Peter’s Adult Learning Center, Inc.*
Mission: To empower adults with developmental disabilities to be contributing members of society.
St. Peter’s Adult Learning Center serves persons with developmental disabilities by providing day habilitation and supported employment programs to adults 21 years of age or older. A volunteer is needed as the day program/supported employment assistant, assisting members through life skill instruction, job coaching, work supervision, and travel training. Valid driver’s license is required
Mission: To provide a comprehensive range of housing and health services for the elderly, sick, injured and the dying.
Stella Maris provides the following services to the aged, infirm, and terminally ill persons: independent living housing units, hospice care, medical day care, and personal care services. A volunteer is needed as a hospice nurse/case manager, assisting with the coordination of hospice admissions, performing follow up visits with the families, and answering triage phone calls.
