MVC OFFERS HEALTHCARE PLACEMENTS IN THE USA AND SOUTH AMERICA.
Mercy Volunteers serving in the healthcare field are placed either in a hospital or at a health center. Clinical experience is available for nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, health advocacy, and pastoral care. Mercy Volunteers serving in the healthcare field often apply for medical school during their year of service. MVC is very supportive and will work with you to accommodate interviews for medical school. Make sure to check out our education discounts for MVC alumni!
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Interviews are set up in an applicant’s geographical area. Submit your application by January 18th for priority in selecting your service site and city!

Mercy Volunteer Corps offers
Mercy Volunteers serving in the healthcare field gain professional experience at accredited institutions across the U.S. and South America. Mercy Volunteers serving as registered nurses must be licensed to practice in the state where they will volunteer. Our service sites guide volunteers in the process of obtaining these licenses. Each of these positions is supported by a site supervisor who ensures that our volunteer is gaining professional experience and is fully immersed in their service site. After their year of service, a significant number of our volunteers are offered full-time positions at their service sites! To view our service sites by city please click here.
MERCY MEDICAL CENTER:
Nursing: A volunteer is needed as a nurse to work with a team of nurses in the Medical/Surgical Unit.
Nursing: A volunteer is needed as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care and/or rehab and recovery areas.
PITTSBURGH MERCY HOSPITAL:
Nursing: Two volunteers are needed: an outreach specialist and community health nurse. Volunteers will assist and support individuals experiencing homelessness connect to a wide variety of resources and supports including healthcare.
ST. JOSEPH MERCY HOSPITAL:
Guyana, South America
Nursing: Volunteers are needed as nurses (one year of experience desired), social workers, physical and occupational therapists.
MERCY RESIDENTIAL CARE:
Guyana, South America
Nursing: A volunteer is needed as a registered nurse for the elderly. This is a 24-hour facility that provides nursing care, personal care, and rehabilitation services.
ST. MARY’S HEALTH CENTER:
Nursing: A volunteer is needed as an R.N. to triage patients, administer injections, perform new patient assessments, and document care in the electronic medical record
ST. MICHAELS ASSOCIATION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION: St. Michaels, AZ
PT, OT, Speech: SMASE serves moderate to severely disabled Navajo children and adults through comprehensive day and residential services. Volunteers are needed to work in professional (physical, occupational, or speech therapists) positions.
Pastoral Care: A volunteer is needed as a spiritual care assistant. Responsibilities include spiritual care assessments and referrals, triaging phone calls from ambulatory patients, providing educational resources, and maintaining patient charts. Training is provided.
Health Advocacy: A volunteer is needed to serve as the key person who supports the ministry of hospitality, compassionate care, administration, and clinic support. This is a high level of patient care.
ST. MARY’S HEALTH CENTER:
Health Advocacy: A patient advocate is needed to schedule appointments, maintain electronic medical records, assist with new patient orientation and develop a quality improvement project focused on chronic illness (hypertension, diabetes, depression).
GOOD SAMARITAN CLINIC:
Health Advocacy: A volunteer is needed as a medical assistant, initiating patient intake process, utilizing electronic medical record for documentation, assisting with translation, and placing follow-up phone calls to patients. Conversational Spanish is required.
NATIONALITIES SERVICE CENTER:
Health Advocacy: A volunteer is needed to serve as a health access liaison to immigrants and refugees. The volunteer will conduct outreach, education, connection to primary care and preventive services, and provide general health access supports.
