Mercy Ecospirituality Center
(Benson, Vermont)

POSITION INFORMATION

The mission of Mercy Ecospirituality Center is to inspire reverence for Earth and to work toward the sustainability of life by acting in harmony with all creation. The space offers opportunities for reflection, education and living gently in mutual relationship with the Earth. Located in the beauty of Vermont’s Green Mountains, the 39 acres of wooded land, raised bed gardens, and animals are ideal for connecting with creation.

Volunteers are needed to tend vegetable gardens, care for animals (sheep, chickens, bees), assist with projects around the farm and offer hospitality for retreatants.

Program dates are June 2 – July 21, 2027.

MEC Position Description

ARISE Adelante
(Alamo, Texas)

POSITION INFORMATION

The mission of ARISE Adelante is to promote the personal development and empowerment of the immigrant community, especially women, children and the youth of the Rio Grande Valley through educational programs that strengthen their organized community and civic participation. ARISE provides an opportunity for cross-cultural exchange and offers experiences for volunteers to meet with community members and better understand the realities of the border.

Volunteers are needed to serve in the summer program, assisting in planning and carrying out activities for children ages 3.5-14 years.

Program dates are June 2 – July 21, 2027.

ARISE Position Description

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Must have health insurance for duration of experience. Able to lift/carry 25lbs and be a minimum of 18 yrs old. Gardening/farming/environment/sustainability interest for Vermont Position. Immigration/cultural exchange/education/children interest for Texas Position.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SERVING WITH MVC?

HOUSING

Mercy Volunteers live in a fully furnished house or apartment in communities of 3-4. MVC covers all rent and utilities during the term of service.

TRANSPORT

To and from location at the start/end of the experience is covered up to $500. A community vehicle is provided and the cost of gas is covered in your service city.

STIPENDS

Volunteers receive a personal stipend. The cost of groceries and household items for the community is covered. Grocery shopping and meal planning is done as a community.

PERSONAL GROWTH

Through community living, building relationships with the local community, shared reflections and a retreat day, Mercy Volunteers come to a deeper understanding of themselves and the MVC core values.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

Volunteers develop their skills and gain new experience that can be helpful in obtaining employment or continuing your education.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

The summer experience offers unique opportunities to engage social justice issues, particularly related to Mercy’s Critical Concerns of Earth and Immigration.
