City Description

Erie is the 4th largest city in Pennsylvania and is located right on Lake Erie. This “gem city” is noted for Presque Isle State Park where you can run, hike, bike, swim, picnic, or simply take in a beautiful sunset. The Sisters of Mercy welcome volunteers to the convent often for dinner and offer opportunities for spiritual engagement and recreation, including card games and attending sporting events. The volunteers live in a beautiful house in the neighborhood in which they serve and is within walking distance to downtown.

Service Site Descriptions

SafeNet Domestic Violence Safety Network

Mission: To end domestic violence, affirm human dignity, and deliver comprehensive direct services to victims.

SafeNet provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal advocacy, a hotline, counseling, medical outreach, and community education and training. SafeNet serves mostly women and children, of all ages and backgrounds. Two volunteers are needed in the following positions: 1) children’s advocate/volunteer coordinator, provide childcare, direct and supervise therapeutic activities, assist with individual and group counseling and manage the monthly volunteer base ; and 2) shelter advocate, provide hotline counseling, receive and orient  victims who come to the shelter, and aid clients in creating and pursuing their goals.  Training is provided.
